The Hungry Caterpillar

In an empowering environment, children
have the agency to create and act on their own ideas, develop knowledge and skills in areas that interest them’ (Ministry of Education, 2017).

Here at Learning Links Hector Drive, we empower tamariki by encouraging and supporting them to contribute to a wide range of enriching learning opportunities. One of our favourite story in the over’s ruma is ‘The hungry caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. Today tamariki were busy at the playdough table recreating their thoughts and ideas of the story by making a playdough caterpillar. Tamariki were able to lead their learning by choosing resources that were available to complete their creativity and today, it was the harakeke! Concepts of Kotahitanga was also fostered as tamariki worked together to create ‘lots and lots of hungry caterpillars’ and sharing and taking turns with the tools and resources around to ensure everyone’s caterpillar was completed.

Exploring The Neighborhood in Hector Drive

We are lucky to be placed within a continuously growing community, which provokes a lot of interest. Today, we had excavators getting the foundations of a house ready behind the center, which was creating a bit of noise and ground movement. To support tamariki understanding of the world around them, we went and explored what was happening.

Thanks Te Awamutu for Treating us as Family.

Learning Links has been part of the Te Awamutu community for just over one year. From the very first day, we were welcomed and treated like a family.....

So as our small way of saying thank you we reached out to one of our favorite local cafes – Churchills this week and put 20 coffees on the Learning Links Tab. Churchills also wanted to thank you so put another 10 free coffees on the Tab.

Simply drop in on Ohaupo Road; grab yourself a coffee and ask them to put in on the Learning Links Childcare Tab. All we ask is that you pay it forward by purchasing one small item when you are there. Enjoy ☕️☕️❤️❤️☕️☕️
